I finally got my copy (only a few months later than I originally planned) of Lisa Sabin-Wilson‘s WordPress for Dummies. This book goes directly into my favorite books area for so many reasons. The most important being that the information in this book is priceless even if you already know about WordPress because it is an indispensable reference guide .
I had the opportunity to meet Lisa back in July before the book had actually been released and knew instantly it would be a useful edition to mt library. The first thing I noticed were all the reasons to use WordPress as a website platform. I have written about this before and now I have many more reasons to add to that list.
I am also planning to use what I have learned from this book (and a few other of my favorite books and resources) to develop a basic WordPress training series for real newbies – beginners. So many times I hear how what is out there still is not basic enough or simplistic enough for a true beginner to “get”. WordPress for Dummies is a great book to start with to learn from. It is well written and easy to understand and follow. Lisa’s humor shines through just when needed and there is enough technical stuff in there to fulfill the “need to know” part of being sure that you have applied due diligence in gathering information to apply to your WordPress web site.
One of the things that I liked about the book was how it was organized. You did not (or do not) need to read all of it if you were not in need of certain information. Of course I had to be one of the geeks to site down and read it all the way through. I would have felt cheated otherwise or fearful that I would have missed some vital piece of information that would forever change my life. Although I cannot think of just one particular bit of life changing information, this book is filled with tips and and things to remember that will keep you from scratching your head and wondering what to do next.
Thanks Lisa, for a great read – a resource I will often reach for and go back to – perhaps most importantly for welcoming me (and all your other readers) into the WordPress community. It truly is a wonderful group of people. I love to watch it (and me) grow and continue to improve all the while benefiting each and everyone of us within it.
