Unique Series Study

UniQue – Week 1

Hey there everyone I just wanted to touch base with you where we were going with our UniQue series.

This UniQue series is presented by The Worship Center in Alamogordo New Mexico. It was originally designed as a four week course in which participants would attend the weekend service and follow up with additional small group interaction during the week. As you can imagine, and as is expected this is a little bit of a challenge when converting it to an online small-group experience.

I really love the concept of the series and I want to share all of it with the entire group, including those that are not local to Alamogordo, NM – which  in reality is 99% of the group. Which I think is so awesome. Anyway, I don’t want you guys to miss any of it so for week one I invite you to listen to last weekend’s sermon from The Worship Center as a podcast.

I also included this weeks Scripture from four different Bible versions. The homework is to read each of them. An follow the directions found farther down in this post.

Scripture: Psalms 139: 13-16

13 For thou hast possessed my reins: thou hast covered me in my mother’s womb.
14 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well.
15 My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth.
16 Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them.
~ King James Version

13 For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb.
14 I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well.
15 My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place, when I was woven together in the depths of the earth.
16 Your eyes saw my unformed body; all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be.
~ New International Version

13 You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb.
14 Thank you for making me so wonderfully complex!Your workmanship is marvelous—how well I know it.
15 You watched me as I was being formed in utter seclusion,as I was woven together in the dark of the womb.
16 You saw me before I was born.
Every day of my life was recorded in your book.
~ New Living Translation Version

13-16 Oh yes, you shaped me first inside, then out; you formed me in my mother’s womb. I thank you, High God—you’re breathtaking! Body and soul, I am marvelously made! I worship in adoration—what a creation! You know me inside and out, you know every bone in my body; You know exactly how I was made, bit by bit, how I was sculpted from nothing into something. Like an open book, you watched me grow from conception to birth; all the stages of my life were spread out before you, The days of my life all prepared before I’d even lived one day.
~ The Message

Let us know in the comment reply area below which of the 4 versions spoke most intimately to you about you being unique. What was it about that verse that impacted you the most?

  1. I most often read the NIV version, BUT… it was the Message version that most spoke to me this week.

It hit me as I was recording the versions (I was originally going to offer video and voice of the versions, but ran out of time). When I heard myself say, “Body and soul, I am marvelously made! I worship in adoration—what a creation! ” i heard just how much God loves me and how special I truly am.

  2. Although the phrase “all the days ordained for me were written in your book before one of them came to be” seems to have “predestination” written all over it (no pun intended), I still believe that my choices are my own. If we truly believe that God is omniscient, then anything and everything we do is by his grace.

    1. I always look at it like, yes – I have free will, it is just that God already knows which choices I am going to make and when. He may know but that does not mean we are not to be responsible for ourselves.
