My Challenge M1D5 #tc10

So are we completely overwhelmed by the weight of that last lesson. Every year, that one is the most difficult for me. In years past, I have even compromised my findings only to realize later how detrimental that was to do. This year, I actually did, and re-did the D4 training even going so far as to have my keywords and phrases go yet again another lever deeper. It should be interesting.

Back on topic and onto Day 5 of The Challenge.

SEO Competition

SEO stands for “search engine optimization”. The search engine master – Google – displays the top 10 ranked pages for any search on their first page. To rank better than your competition for your keyword phrase, you need to have better SEO on your site than your competition has on their site. We will need to have an optimized site. We want that number one spot on Google. Please don’t let that scare you. I know when I first got into internet marketing, this terrified me – and for no reason other than I simply did not understand. But we will be getting into how we can optimize our own sites just a little later. For now, we are still just evaluating SEO competition.

In today’s lesson we learn that there are two parts to SEO competition that we should be concerned with.

  1. the amount of competition
  2. the strength of the competition

In other words, we learned from yesterday’s training how MANY users are competing for our keyword or keyword phrases but now we need to learn the STRENGTH of our competition.

So how do we evaluate our competition’s strength? We do not want to arbitrarily write content to fill our site. We want to be able to know exactly what our content must contain to be able to cause our site pages to rank well and not be direct competition with those that we KNOW we cannot catch and/or overtake. Today we learn how to begin to KNOW that. So we again let our secret weapon marketing research tool Market Samurai do all of the work for us. Using Market Samurai’s SEO Competition Module, Dr Anthony takes us though the beginning stepsĀ  to get the answers regarding the strength of our SEO competition. What an edge this tool will provide for us. Didn’t I tell you this tool was awesome, powerful and priceless? It is not too late, you can still get a free copy of Market Samurai, I have a few left to give away.

We start our SEO competition evaluation by looking at 5 specific areas of SEO (there are a lot more but today we look only at 5) that Market Samurai will be able to calculates and return some results. The 5 areas that we want to become familiar with today are: Page Rank (PR), Page Backlinks (BLP), Yahoo Directory Listing (YAH), Keyword in Title (Title) and Keyword in URL (URL). If you are not familiar with what tose are, no worries… we get to learn that tomorrow!
