Leadership Challenge
Another possible life changing read.
I spend my Tuesday mornings watching iThemes TV. iThemes TV is a weekly show where a great community of WordPress web users get together to watch Cory Miller and the rest of the iThemes team host a streaming video TV show. Along with the show is an interactive live chat.
Each week in addition to the news and updates about the awesome iThemes, PluginBuddy and WebDesign products we share and talk about how to improve our businesses and adopting great business habits.
Today was Cory’s first day back on the show after being gone for a month (he has a very busy schedule these days!) and he brought with him his experience from reading a book that he had come across. The name of the book is Leadership Challenge by James M. Kouzes and Barry Z. Posner. Cory was so impressed with this book that he has decided to include it and make it required reading for his entire team. Cory went on to tell us about some of the different highlights that he got from the book.
I believe that learning about leadership, especially when running a business is an ongoing process so I was all ears listening to what Cory was saying. In my humble opinion (and you know what they say about opinions, right?), it is an area that all good business leaders strive to never stop growing in.
I followed his link to do some additional research to see if this was a book that could influence me and hold my interest. I was already somewhat sold, knowing Cory and because of the subject matter but I wanted some additional details. In reviewing the table of contents, I was immediately drawn to an area regarding “modeling the way.” The authors discuss affirming shared values, personifying shared values and teaching others to model the values. I find this to be so true in every aspect of my business as well as in my life in general. I have learned it is the core of what keeps everything flowing smoothly and productively.
Leadership Challenge Workbook
As I continued my research I also found that this book has a companion workbook that you can get. So, the book is an actual study guide and the workbook can be record of your completion of a sort of mini course in leadership. The reviews that were available were quite reputable and the book has a few revisions so you are to have updated information available as well.
There were many other things that appealed to me about this book just by reading through the contents and the other areas made available to me online. It is being moved to my list of recommended books. I hope the copy for my library arrives soon.
