Ready? Ready for what? Well… PHP 5
WordPress 3.2 is scheduled to be the first WordPress release (scheduled for the first quarter of 2011) that will no longer provide PHP 4 support.
What does this really mean to you?
If you are a WordPress platform user you already know the importance of keeping things up to date not only to be able to take advantage of all the new features that release but also any new fixes it will have. This means increased security for your sites and blogs. Starting with the release of WordPress 3.2, the minimum PHP version support that your server must provide must be at least version 5.2 of PHP. That means in order for you to even be able to install or upgrade to the most recent versions of WordPress (version 3.2 and beyond) you need to prepare now.
My friend Chris Jean (iThemes.com) created a free tool to help you check if your site is ready …. check out the PHP5Ready Tool.
When you use this tool, it evaluates the information that is returned from your server. It will identify if the server that you currently have your site hosted on is using PHP 5 and is ready and able to accommodate the WordPress3.2 release. If the tool cannot identify which PHP version is supported then it will provide additional instructions with how to obtain the needed information.
NOTE: The servers at The Ultimate Solution have all checked out and are ahead of the game. We are ready, willing and able to support your WordPress hosting needs.
