Good News for Women in Web Business

Are you a woman? Have you found building a Web business difficult?  It’s not your fault.  Virtually every aspect of the computer was designed through the eyes of a geeky male computer nerd.  Think of a young Bill Gates in a garage throwing a party where the main source of fun is program coding. To me this actually sounds like I could really enjoy myself – but I doubt that is the case for most women, and it certainly did not happen to me over night.

Whether it’s the operating system, web design, graphic design, programming or Domain Name Servers.  Its logic was set up through a male brain. So, it makes sense looking back why I was nothing more than an occasional computer user at one time. In fact, there was a time that every time I would sit down at my PC, it would crash. (Notice how I say, “it”?) I avoided  the “how it works” aspect for as long as I could.

As I mentioned, I started out on a PC. Thankfully, I did change to a MAC in 1998 which really seemed to help ease the pain of my slow learning curve. I am not sure that it was the MAC or the fact that I realized that I was interested in actually learning about computers and the Internet. Regardless, once I became interested, there was no looking back. I was hooked.

On average, a woman’s start-up will likely be a bit tougher than your male counterparts.  However, if a woman can push past the initial technical stage, their communication and organization skills puts WOMEN with the advantage. The one technical thing that has made the most impact on me is the fact that all the errors that “it” made, were ultimately operator error. “It” is always doing exactly what I tell it to…. sigh, oh Lordy!

The hill looks ugly on the climb up, but it’s pretty on the other side,.. I promise.
