But they delight in the law of the LORD, meditating on it day and night.
Psalm 1:2, NLT
You can learn how to follow God by meditating on his Word. Meditating means spending time reading and thinking about what you have read. It means asking yourself how you should change so you’re living as God wants.
Knowing and meditating on God’s Word are my first steps toward applying it to my everyday life. If I want to follow God more closely, I must know what He says.
I have always been very familiar with the stories in the Bible. I really did not spend much time actually reading it but knew that all of my core beliefs, values and morals were deeply rooted within it. I did not fully understand the importance of continually reading the Bible. I applied whatever I could when I could.
I recently began reading the Bible more regularly. I am amazed at how easy it was a transition to make and I am very happy that I can now say that it is a daily habit I have. The trick for me was to make it easy to do and then make it a habit. There are all kinds of resources available now-a-days to help me make it easier. I choose to have a daily email sent to me. And each day as I go through my email, I am delivered a daily devotional. I set it up once and it is done.
Now, when I happen across these special email, I make a point to stop and really read and hear the words that are within it. It does not interfere with my routine at all and I am inspired by each message that I get. I look forward my email devotionals as a refreshing break from my worldly life and an opportunity to fill my cup and be able to move forward with an extra boost of spirituality.
I am blessed.
